Interviews to mark 150 years of Whitworth Scholarships
To mark 150 years of the Whitworth Scholarship, the Society commissioned interviews with eminent Scholars from across the engineering spectrum.
Born before the arrival of the humble telephone, Sir Joseph Whitworth founded a scholarship for ex-apprentices to attend university and gain a theoretical education to bolster their practical experience. Now, 150 years later, the Whitworth Society (founded in 1923) has commissioned interviews with eminent Scholars from across the engineering spectrum.
Interviews were conducted at the IMechE library in Westminster, London and over Skype. The scholars featured are: Monika Sud, Management Consultant in Australia; Professor Gillian Cooke, Warwick University; Dr Ben Hughes, Reader at Sheffield University; Rachael Hoyle, Project Manager at BAE Systems; Rikki Jones, Submarine Structural Engineer at Babcock; Dr Howard Stone, Director of Ecolite / DAL Finance; Pav Bhogal, Software Integration for Naval Ships at BAE Systems; and Dr Michael Wood, Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge.
We hope these interviews will inform and inspire the next generation of engineers and potential Whitworth Scholars. We encourage you to share these #Whitworth150 stories on social media.
