David, a first year award holder writes about his experience:

"I found the Summer meeting to be enjoyable and informative and a good chance to network with other society members and get to know what the society is all about. I met a nice group of people and looked round some interesting plants.

We visited Perrigo Pharmaceutical and looked at how tablets are pressed and the different techniques that are used there to help you take your medicine. We visited Coors Brewery and museum where we discovered how Carling and Grolsch is made. There was a large warehouse equivalent to 3 football fields full stacked 3 pallets high with Carling, that's a lot of drinking! We listened to a very interesting man talking about social history in the museum.

The Friday morning brought hangovers for some and a trip to JCB. It was amazing to see the scale and manufacturing there - from cutting and forming panels and chassis, welding and painting and final assembly and a nice steak dinner. The president ended the summer meeting and handed over the presidency to Steve Davison for the oncoming year."
